In my country, this day is called Remembrance Day. People wear poppies. And they remember. I miss that. I tried to articulate what I feel is the difference, but erased my attempts. Armistice. Remembrance.

Today is also ethereal_lad's birthday, AND the birthday of his beautiful new book. Craig writes like a dream. Read this book:

You can find it here.

Also The Money Times, which I had never heard of before, reports that Obama was sighted carrying a book of Walcott's poems. A president who reads poetry? And comic books? I faint.

The hotel at WFC had poppies for "sale" (it was a donation to a charity of some kind). It's a great tradition.

I happened to visit Canada on Veteran's Day one year, and stayed with a friend whose partner had been in the Canadian military. It was an interesting conversation; I hadn't realized selling paper poppies was what funded the Canadian VA.
