Smart Writing Analogy
As the brilliant and insightful author Matt Hughes says...

One of the things I tell my students is that the purpose of the first
draft is not to get it right, but to get it written. Then you've got
something to work with.

My analogy is: think of yourself as a soldier hitting the beach on
D-Day. If you stop to gawk, to mourn the dead, to succour the wounded,
you'll die there. First rule is, Get Off The Beach!

Yep, down here in the much where the millstones of mediocrity grind busily away, I tell worried fellow writers the same thing. "Get something down. Text is easier to work with than blank pages."
